"Behind closed doors" is my series of 9 evocative paintings that capture the profound emotions harbored by individuals silently battling their inner demons within the confines of their homes. It sheds light on the harsh reality that some women face within their own marital sanctuaries – enduring various forms of abuse, be it physical, emotional, financial, or sexual.
Now, take a moment to reflect: do you truly feel safe and secure in the home you've chosen as your matrimonial abode? Or do you find yourself wearing a facade of happiness to present to the outside world? Are you gradually being worn down, or have you dared to defy societal norms and boldly forge your own path? When people gaze into your eyes, do they see a melancholic depth, an enigmatic mystery, a poignant sorrow, or the innocence of a child?
In this delicate balance, we must also question if education empowers people and make them better human beings, nurturing their empathy and compassion, or does it sometimes serve as a shield to hide the hideous crimes they commit?
Do you count yourself among the fortunate, carefree souls who enjoy the joy of a child, or are you gradually crumbling into countless shattered fragments with each passing day? Memories often swirl around us, attempting to piece back together the fragments of our shattered selves.
Yet, in the end, we can either opt to mend our lives with the grace of kintsugi, embracing our scars as part of our unique story and stepping forward in a redefined way. Or we can allow ourselves to be consumed by the broken fragments of life, succumbing to the weight of our hardships. The choice is ours.
This series isn’t just about unveiling hidden anguish; it’s a call for inclusivity and empowerment. It beckons us to consider a universal truth: the need to extend empathy beyond appearances. It invites us all to recognize silent struggles, fostering a world where survivors’ resilience ignites change.
Moreover, it champions the empowerment of women. It underscores the necessity to reshape societal norms, advocating for inclusivity and equity across diverse identities. It celebrates the strength found in unity, where diverse voices harmonize into a chorus of empowerment, rewriting narratives, and fostering a culture where every woman’s story holds value and inspires change.
Let’s unite in this endeavor, weaving a tapestry of empowerment and inclusion where every voice matters, and every survivor’s story strengthens the fabric of a more equitable world.
